Has anyone used Geek Squad for data recovery?

I was doing my homework on Sunday night and my laptop just shut down and wouldn’t restart. I showed it to a friend who said my hard drive had crashed. My entire MFA program is on that labtop, so I took it to Geek Squad right away. They said the drive needed a data recovery, and as expensive as it was, I agreed to pay it. Has anyone used Geek Squad for a data recovery? Was it successful? If not, is there anywhere in Los Angeles that can be recommended to go a good job? I’m really freaking out. India Introduces Low Cost Computing Device

India’s low-cost computing device has better future, say officials. According to a government official the device can run the office suite from OpenOffice.org, besides offering users the ability to browse the Web.
N.K. Sinha, joint secretary of the Bureau of Technical Education in India’s Department of Higher Education, in an email “Intended to be priced at $10 (about Rs 500) eventually at high volumes, the device will initially cost between $20 (about Rs 1,000) and $30 (about Rs 15,000).”
The device is an ultra-low-cost and low-power device which will meet the requirements of higher education students for computing and access to electronic content, Sinha said.
The device does not require to be connected to a laptop, and connects to a broadband connection through a LAN (local area network) port, according to Sinha. The display is integral to the device and is not an LCD (Liquid Crystal Display).
